LG Life Sciences claimed the 'Technology Award' at the 9th Korea New Drug Awards. The winning product was the company's next-generation caspase inhibitor for the treatment of liver disease, known as LB84451. LGLS signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Gilead Sciences in November, 2007 for the drug's distribution.
The Korea New Drug Awards have been presented annually since 1999 by the Korea Drug Research Administration. Their purpose is to recognize the achievements of the local pharmaceutical research industry and to provide motivation for new drug development. The awards are sponsored by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Family Affairs, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy.
